Even an “All rights reserved” copyright does not block someone from reporting on your findings in their own words and copyrighting their report. Nor should it.

The unfortunate reality is that most research papers are commercial (published in some journal) and so if you could make your observations not be used for commercial purpose they basically would not be used much at all. But as others said it seems that the “license” field in GBIF is mostly ignored by researchers using location data anyway.

Location data is likely not copyrightable (to the best of my understanding) even though iNat does allow users to set a license that applies to it. Though keeping a more restrictive license for observation data will prevent data from being shared with GBIF at all (which will definitely reduce its usage by researchers if that is desired).
