Uploading avatars

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I have just googled how to upload an avatar to iNaturalist and it says you can’t. So how have people done it. I don’t have an avatar on anything else as I don’t do social media. I have read that the general census of opinion is that having an avatar is a good thing, so how do I do it please?

Thanks, Tony

welcome to the forum

assuming you’re on desktop, go to your profile (https://www.inaturalist.org/people/mracbailey) and click the blue edit button on left of screen

you can then upload a photo

remember to click save on that page afterwards

out of interest, where did you read that you can’t do this?

Hello beachcomber
Yes, I just googled how to upload an avatar and the first search response was you can’t, But you can create a profile. The following responses were how to upload a photograph of an observation.
I’m a bit technologically challenged I afraid, being an old so and so.
Thanks for your reply, I’ll give it a go.
Tony

Yes, please. Give us something visual to recognise and remember you by. It does not have to be you, it can be whatever biodiversity interests you. Something that works well when reduced to a tiny square.
Odonata - but if you look at her avatar …

Well, I’ve uploaded something, I’m not sure it reduces well but I think it makes you want to look at it closer. It’s the flower of the devils hand tree, Chiranthodendron pentadactylon at Dunedin botanical gardens. What do you think?
I’m too old and ugly, unlike you Diana.

Yes, thank you for your picture.
I am old too ;~))

You have gone back to my father’s roots. He came from Dannevirke via London to Cape Town.

(now we need the matching picture instead of M here on the Forum too?)

Yes, please do change it here, as well!
Sometimes that tiny, unique image can be easier to identify than a user name, and can trigger a spark of recognition that makes me think “aha! I will read something thoughtful here!”
