I came here to find out if anyone had ever suggested this. I would think it’s an obvious and hugely useful strategy. I know it would need to have large numbers of annotated observations to train on, but by now I’d have thought we have that for many species.
I’ve spent many hours annotating the life stage (where I could) of every butterfly and moth ever observed in my city. It didn’t take much IDing skill, just a long time. Thank the gods (or, more accurately, the iNat team) for the keyboard shortcuts!
Unless I’m missing something about the feasibility, it seems like such a missed opportunity not to have it in place. Is there any plan to ever have this added?
