I think that indicates it is a second account specifically for the purposes of the project.

I’m having trouble seeing why a second account would be necessary for the purposes of this annotation effort, or what possible advantage there would be in keeping these activities separate from one’s original account.

Yeah, please use only one account for your activity on iNat. Some exceptions are class accounts for instructors to use with students, and accounts for organizations (eg parks, etc). For the latter I highly recommend using an organization email account (eg info@organization.org) rather than a personal work account.

Again, maybe there are compelling reasons for doing things a specific way in this case, but transparency seems like it would be helpful and preempt possible misunderstandings.
