On every observation, there is a symbol that shows the number of IDs, or some other ID-related thing:
I was wondering, why choose this symbol? It does seem a bit random to me.

It looks like some kind of tag, so my guess is that it references specimen labels in a museum or something.

I filled out a lot of skin/specimen tags during my museum days. (Not real similar to this older style.) None had fairy sparkles even when we assigned a species ID.
