Which Myrmecia species is the most intimidating? Personally, I get scared of taking photos of the Australian Red Bull Ant (Myrmecia Smillima)

All of them.

Any that are close to their nests. That’s when I find them to be at their most defensive and I’m always worried that while I’m photographing the ones I can see, the ones I can’t see are crawling up my sleeve or something.
I find the enormous jaws of Myrmecia mjobergi somewhat intimidating but also kind of goofy

But it’s the jumping jacks in the M. pilosula species complex that have the worst reputation. I certainly felt intimidated by these Myrmecia imaii I saw in WA.

On the other hand I found M. swalei so timid that I had to lie perfectly still for many minutes next to their well hidden nest entrance to get a shot
And I found a large nest of these scary looking M. brevinoda to be positively serene at night.

Thanks

Myrmecia pyriformis, the Inch ant is soo intimidating. they are the biggest ant I’ve ever seen with massive mandibles. I once found one wandering inside and was so shocked. They don’t seem to be to common in the suburbs though.
