Je veux bien participer, j’habite en PolynĆ©sie franƧaise.

Hey, Lucy… I’m wondering if it would be okay to ask for a challenge later in the year? It is early spring for insects and new buds and everything is just appearing.
Spring is so exciting on its own!

I am not in the USA, so I would not post a thread only for the USA, don’t worry. :) But I see you are now in the global CNC, hooray! Let me know if you still want a personal challenge or are good for now.

We have retos here a few times a year, which last a few days. I missed the first day for my son’s wedding and with guests to entertain it has been difficult. Yesterday, however we took them to DzibilchaltĆŗn (an archaeological site), and by declining to climb the structures with them I managed to get some photos so will upload those at least.

Cernunosse wrote in French that he/she really would like to participate, that is why I suggested to join the global challenge, too.

Ah! -"I don’t know much about these bioblitz-challanges, but they seem to be similar to the City nature challenges, I assume.

Marriage of your son is important, too and I am very sure, you will try to take part in the reto in autumn.

And if you showed the guests this accient place and took nature fotos, too it sounds like it was a ā€œfiesta divertidaā€.

I would still like a little challenge, but I can’t travel etc.

How ?

I DID IT! I saw green bee eater nest! No bird inside, but good enough for me.

I forgot to tell here that I did find the beetle https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?d1=2025-01-01&quality_grade=research&taxon_id=484395&user_id=susanne-kasimir&verifiable=any I call it ā€œLucy’s beetleā€ now. As you can see I found it 4 times, and always on Pistacia lenticus. So that’s really interesting. And all ± on the coast. This shrub also grows around here, but that’s probably why I didn’t find the beetle before. I have to read up on its life cycle, maybe its possible to find the larvae as well. It was really an exciting challenge.
Now I have to learn to recognise the bee, that Lucy gave me.

Update: I was unable to find the grebe, unfortunately. As for the wasp and milkweed, I will have to wait until summer/late fall. The butterfly milkweed in my yard hasn’t sprouted yet (and I figure identifying that would be cheating, as it’s cultivated ;) ) and cicada killers usually come out in late summer.

I assume I’m not allowed to observe any preserved specimens I have collected in the past of these organisms, correct?

I’m not sure since CNC is over if you wish to keep participating with this challenge, but I think the concept is very interesting and I could definitely take some motivation to find something different! I’d love to have a challenge as well if you’re not too busy. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day!

Let’s hope we will get our challenges.

I am here! But possibly not for long so I am posting fast because last night I started, deiced to do some things first, and I missed my opportunity.

(Broken record) we moved recently, and the new fraccionamiento has less stable electricity, in part because a new power station is being built nearby and so our power is turned off periodically to run cables or what not. Recently though we had surges which damaged appliances and keyboards and culminated two nights ago in a very dramatic explosion of a transformer. This was halfheartedly fixed yesterday however you cannot fix things that have exploded so an hour later the power went off again.

Finally the transformer was replaced and hour ago but we have been warned that it may need to be shut off again to check the cables from it.

So we have all been sleeping in 40+ Celsius with our windows open in our hammocks sweating like this is our job. (The first night was bearable, last night the air did not move at all, zero breeze, so it felt an oven.)

I will of course do challenges and am delighted some wish to continue. :) Bear with me as I charge devices, clean the food that soured in the fridge, and run laundry that has piled up, plus read to get my bearings first.

(It also bears mentioning that I am dim beyond measure for lack of good sleep.)

That sounds like an extremely challenging situation to be in. I hope things return to a greater degree of normalcy for you soon!
