To post observations?
Heh, that would be me, too. Did I upload a 20 year old photo recently? Yes, yes I did. And I’m proud of it!
On your way to Zion and Bryce, stop at Moapa Valley NWR to see the endemic Moapa Dace, Moapa Warm Springs Riffle Beetle, and Moapa Valley Pyrg. The refuge is only open Friday to Sunday, 8-4 in the cooler months, so you have to plan ahead a bit. It has a beautiful viewing chamber built into the side of the springbrook where you can see all of the critters easily. This area used to be a resort with all of the springs feeding into a large swimming pool, but it has been restored to a semi-natural state.
Corn Creek at the Desert NWR, north of Vegas, also has an endemic springsnail and a refuge population of Pahrump poolfish, which is extirpated from its natural habitat.
When travelling and walking on the street I stop all the time to protograph little animals
I don’t want to drive myself while on vacation (I don’t find driving to be very relaxing), so I’m limited to rideshares, group tours, and if I can find people to drive me around.
You know you are seriously into iNat when the first thing you do when you get home from a surgery is check to make sure there is nothing you can do to help your followers
@quyksilver so sorry hadn’t meant to respond to you!!
And give up an amazing cat toy / human fidget device? Never!
Hey, some of remember using modems that required you to slam the phone receiver into the accoustic coupler. I kind of miss the hiss-pong-pong-screech and blinkenlights.
I’m perfectly happy to not have to connect at 9600 baud anymore, though.
Start doing macro! ‘I’ve love to take a picture but I wouldn’t get anything except for your eye’
You travel down rural side roads on your way home just so you can take pics of native plants. And then the IDs you get end up with you adding to the wanted plants for your garden…
Yeah… I live on one of those, that’s where I do easy iNatting! I’m hard of hearing, so it’s risky business, crouching roadside.
I’ve transplanted many plants to my untended garden, mostly from the strips between the road and farm fields. If they make it, super! I don’t do much in the way of gardening.
Have to admit, I get a bit miffed when some random driver scares off my subjects…. I’ll smile and wave anyway
Telephoto also works!
You have a speech to give today, but instead of worrying about it, you are busy submitting almost a hundred observations to iNat (My sincerest apologies to all of my followers!!)
I like it when the people I follow post a lot of things! Especially when I can identify some of them.
Same! I like to think I am getting better at IDing for others, which is probably somewhat true. I love being able to learn more about the nature around us while it still exists, and I mentioned this when I filled out the survey on iNat about IDing. But I also follow like eighty people, so sometimes it takes me a long time to scroll through things. And it can be kind of stressful to go through a huge pile of obs, especially when iNat has trouble loading. But I am kind of behind, so…at least I finally got to November 28!!! ![]()
Thanks for identifying a couple of mine today ;)
my favorite verb!
Glad to hear that, and welcome to the forum!
I’m on my way to be the maid of honor for my twin sister’s wedding, and I’m identifying spiders during the ride! Going to try to get some of the bridal party to join!
Go find some newlywebs!
The other day I needed to walk down to the lake edge behind my house and I didn’t have any pockets for my phone and my hands were filled with other things (if I had a camera around my neck or shoulder it would smack into stuff I was carrying as I walked). I said “If any otters show up while I’m down there sans-camera again, I will be really pissed”. One time an otter swam really close when I was down there without a camera. We had a pretty long interaction (very curious fella) and I could have even gotten a good photo with my phone if I had had it on me. Or even better I could have gotten a video of him! There was a great blue heron and a ribbon snake this time I was sans-camera. I rolled my eyes as I hadn’t seen either species here in months or maybe more than year.
