I’m likewise down to do such things…I live in a mixed pine woods in the foothills of mountains so I should be!

My 5000th though is from my holiday beach extravaganza on Cape Cod. An adventure for me in a place I hadn’t previously visited on the Cape plus long-tailed ducks talking and posturing and diving gracefully next to red-throated loons, common eiders and a lone grebe not 20 feet away with no humans around! A real treat until I trumped it by finding a cool vertebra and a skull. I :heart_eyes: iNat

…I think I’ll try for 5000 dwarf pitch pines in the spring!

Post it as multiple observations, so that we can ID for the carrots (Daucus carota ssp. sativus), the lamb (Ovis aries, with annotation for juvenile), etc… oh, and the wine, too (* Vitis vinifera*)

You joke, but there are several observations of Gallus gallus in McNugget form.

ah, but they are likely to be “location inaccurate”… if you grow the carrots, slaughter your own sheep and grow the grapes and make the wine, then the location will be true… but of course then they are cultivated… sigh…

lol, I’m not quite there yet! I did get +1600 observations one day last August on a trip to North Carolina, so maybe some day in the future I’ll be able to hit 5000 in a day

Use wild carrot, hunt wild Ovis, gather grapes (ok, wine won’t be the best with wild grape, make it with other berries). ;)

My cat often catches roaches and other insects.

But then he rips their legs off, hides the body under the bed for later snacks, and leaves the legs on my pillow.

So much for observing those.

You go to your local plant or hardware store and go to the garden center and start photographing things with you phone that fly onto the plants.

I tend to photograph stuff at all kinds of off the rails places car lots, college, restaurants, doctor’s offices, you name it. There is wildlife all over the place and sometimes you make the coolest discoveries in all the weird places.

On a road trip this weekend, counted raptors I could see while driving through the Eastern Sierra…39 during the trip north and only 21 going south, but could report seeing red-tail hawks, coopers hawks, several kestrels, one golden eagle, a turkey vulture, and what I can only describe as plenty of other hawks and falcons (hard to accurately discern at 70+ mph :blush:). Did stop to take photos of some, but if I stopped for all, we would not have made our destination in time :)
