What I like about this shot of an Eastern Carpenter Ant is that it’s one of the first ants (other than the American Winter Ant) I’ve seen out there, but also its testament to the incredible toughness of ants in general. Note the half-missing foreleg and antenna. Ants don’t think twice about taking one or even all, if it’s for the team.
But also – the tech details. Would you believe this was taken with a bridge camera? This time of year I’m only carrying my birding camera, the Nikon P950 superzoom. But in my back pocket? A Raynox clip-on macro.
