A game based on entomology

I’ve been toying with the idea of an online game called “Bug Span”, in the idiom
of the incredibly popular board game “wingspan”. This would be based
to a large extent on photos and knowledge of insects.

This is a strictly non-commercial project, not involving any cost to players
or revenues of any kind. Strictly a fun and educational project.

I can supply the game play and technology, but I need photos and expertise
in the field. If you have an interest, and (likely) a few hundred hours to spare,
I’d like to talk.

Perhaps the title should say “entomology,” not “etymology”? Also, I think we can come up with a more unique name than “BugSpan” ;)

etymology or entomology?

are you interested in the words (names) or the insects as such?

Entomology.for the game; Etymology for the rest of this posting.
“span” is becoming a suffix associated with a certain style of game.
There are Wingspan (birds), Wrmspan (dragons) and Finspan (fish)

I’m open to suggestions, but the domain I’m thinking of spans all
invertibrate animals. Bugs seem like a good umbrella .

Might be worth checking that Stonemaier Games haven’t pre-emptively reserved the name already somehow, otherwise it might be seen as encroaching on their territory. They’re generally a pretty pleasant company but (understandably) fairly protective of their product family.

Edit to add: I think the idea in principle is a good’un :)

I saw that someone mentioned Bugspan as a name on the comments for Fishspan product so at least a fan of the games has already proposed it.

I’ve not played any of the games but they look interesting.

I’m not much of a board game guy (I can’t even win in my own ones), but a game based on Entomology? HECK YA!
