I had this happen once using a Galaxy S24+ though it never repeated..
Also having this problem, Galaxy S24 Ultra. Very frustrating, I don’t usually have time to manually rotate the images.
We’ve found the cause and are working in a fix.
I use the Samsung Galaxy S24 also and have the same rotation problem. I read somewhere it could have to do with the phone’s gyroscope. I will look into that.

Lately, I’ve noticed that whenever I upload observations through my cell phone (Samsung S25 Ultra), the images automatically rotate by -90°, which forces me to edit them one by one to restore their original orientation.
Several people in Mexico have told me they’re experiencing the same issue, and that it only started happening recently (maybe within the last two months). When I transfer the images to my PC and upload them from there (the ones originally taken with my phone), the error no longer occurs.
From what I’ve seen, this bug has been recurring for several years.

I’m still having the same bug with Galaxy S25 photos
if it matters at all, I have only had this problem when I take pictures on a different iphone, then send it to an android, download it to the android from google messages then upload to iNat.
Just wanted to post here in case it is useful that I am having the same issue with the iNaturalist app, on Samsung Galaxy S25+.
I also still have this bug. Vertical images rotate 90 degrees to left. Only landscape-photos don’t rotate.

I’ve been testing our new beta version and as far as I can tell that will fix this issue. I’m hoping we can get the beta released publicly next week so that folks with these devices and test it out as well.
This update is now available to members of our public beta program for iNaturalist Android. If anyone who was affected by the bug wants to test it out, that would be really helpful to us.

Hi. I use the iNaturalist app on my samsung S25 FE. Although I take photos in portrait orientation and they show in portrait orientation in my gallery, when I upload them to an iNaturalist observation, they get converted to landscape orientation. I’m using iNaturalist version 1.37.2 (638). Here are screenshots of how the photos look in my gallery/camera app (top photo) and in the iNaturalist app (lower photos). I’m taking the photos with my camera app and then importing them into iNaturalist.
I’m trying your beta version. The beta version has the photos in the correct orientation so far. Will test it some more.
The beta version is working well. Photos are in correct orientation both when importing them from my gallery and when taking the photo with iNaturalist. Is there anything in particular you want me to try in the beta version other than just using it how I normally do?
