I’ve often been frustrated by the iPhone’s image processing in close-ups. It overly saturates certain colors (particularly blue/purple) and it’s hard to get it to focus where I want. I know other people have the focus problem which is why we so many people’s hands in close-ups.In theory you can tell the iPhone where to focus but I have always had trouble getting that to work for close-ups. I just bought an alternate app called Halide which makes the iPhone camera function more like a single-lens reflex–still getting the hang of it. Anybody else have experience with the alternate camera apps?
Similar issue with Huawei P30 Pro.
It often focuses on the background, which is a nonsense in mode macro.
I would greatly appreciate some help.
I hold down somewhere on the screen to activate „lock focus“ so that I can focus by moving the phone. Not ideal, but better than exquisite leaf detail on your photos meant for insect observations…
Apart from that, I have an app called hydra which at least has manual focus mode, but I think it has switched to a subscription model now and watermarks your images without it, so I wouldn’t recommend it anymore
Hydra sounds like it might similar to Halide. I don’t mind paying for apps if they help me do something I value (or keep me from seeing ads).
Here’s an example I took today of a cultivated Monkshood. The iPhone color is downright garish. The one I took with Halide is closer to how it appeared to me in real life. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/249048103
