App crashing on launch - iPhone iNat Classic

Platform: Apple iOS

App version number, if a mobile app issue: most current version - Version 3.3.9

Screenshots of what you are seeing: not applicable bc app crashes

Description of problem:

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18.7.2 and 26.2 (updated this morning, and it’s still crashing)

iNaturalist Classic app

App was working fine for most of yesterday. Phone did a “panic mode” restart (it’s been doing that sporadically lately) late last night. Not sure if iNat was crashing before that, but it definitely was crashing after that panic mode restart. Updated iOS this morning, and it’s still crashing on launch. I can “close” the app using whatever the app switcher thing is called, but it will just crash again if I try to open it. Phone restarts do not help either.

not sure if this is an app issue, or there’s something screwy with my phone. Or both, that’s always an option.

How much storage is left on your device? Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app?

Plenty of storage (about half). I uninstalled and reinstalled and currently it’s working. Fingers crossed for now.

EDIT: but for some reason, a bunch of my observations’ location info and visibility got screwed up - pretty much anything not on the mainland US has unknown visibility (when it was set to open) and/or the location got changed to coordinates only “unable to find location name”. I have to fix each one manually.

What’s an example of one observation affected by this?
