I’m trying to count up observations within different geoprivacy boxes and I’m not finding an easy way to do that. For example, the species Bombus affinis is obscured by default, and I would like to easily get all the Bombus affinis records that fall within a single given geoprivacy box.
My main question is whether there are location codes for each of the geoprivacy boxes on iNat?
If there is no easy way to do that, is there more information on the exact dimensions and locations of the geoprivacy boxes? All I can find is that they are 0.2 degrees and roughly 22x22 km.
I think they’re just an imaginary grid of 0.2-degree boxes. So you can construct them using the search parameters. For example, this would give you all the Bombus affinis observations within one geoprivacy box near Minneapolis.
Pick any one of the 53 observations in that box and you’ll see that the bounding box is the same 0.2-degree rectangle.
Edit the nelat, nelng, swlat and swlng parameters and you can look at nearby obscuration boxes. Of course you can add other parameters to see only RG observations, look at other Bombus species, and so on.
If you have a genuine research need to get more accurate location info, you might want to create a project that allows users to choose to share obscured location data.
