Asian elephants tusk genetics

  1. There are three varieties of male elephants

A) Elephants without tusks or tushes

B) Elephants with tushes

C) Elephants with tusks

But when we are talking about females

A) Elephants without tusks or tushes.

B) Elephants with tushes

But some resources cites that, a female elephant with “tusks” is rare possible trait. Do you know about a presence of any female like that ?

  1. What is the proper method of genetics in determining tusk/tush/tuskless manner of male and female asian elephants

(Is it mendelian or non mendelian, or x-y linked or polygenic manner; Is it dominant or recessive ; which gene determines it?

  1. Someone says females are the key point of determining tusks. What is their role in tusk genetics.

Please be careful when answering. I am asking about ASIAN ELEPHANTS

I was led to believe that tusks were strictly a male thing for Elephantidae that were mutually exclusive with tushes (elongated teeth of adult females). If there was a hormone imbalance in either sex they could grow different structures or grow none at all. Unfortunately, I can’t answer for Elephas maximus specifically.
