Attracting moths from Tribe Dilophonotini

I’ve been searching all year with no luck! Specifically I’m searching for Genus Hemaris and Proserpinus, but I’ve yet to observe anything from these taxa so a wide net is cast, and advice for any moths is appreciated. I’ve been using tips I found in other threads and found tons of moths, but none are the type I’m looking for.

I distinctly remember seeing one several years ago, my first and only sighting. To my frustration I didn’t photograph it!! In my search I’ve been looking through honeysuckle gardens in my area, fireweed on the roadside, and all around snowberry and thimbleberry bushes. But: nothing. They don’t seem to like my light traps either.

Rather discouragingly, in my usual romping grounds (the area from Vancouver, BC to Bellingham, WA) there are a total of three sightings reported on iNat. There were four, but it was a looper that was misidentified. It doesn’t seem to be their usual habitat, so perhaps I just got one that was incredibly lost or they’re just elusive. But I’m very sure it was something from this tribe!

I don’t have any specific recommendations, but since adults of these groups seem to be diurnal nectar feeders, you might start by looking through iNat observations and trying to discern (or ask the OPs) what species of flowers are being visited in your area. Then get some of those and plant 'em!
