Auto-importer adding taxon names with the author included

Names with the author appended have started to be imported from EOL. Appears to have only started in the past day or two.

First one has no obs. Maybe in the process of updating taxonomy?

None of the taxa listed above should have observations, they’ve all been fixed and swapped into the correct name by a handful of different curators. Looking back over the most recently created 3000 names the appending of the author is a recent phenomenon.

Added to my weekly report.

Some taxa are even coming in when there’s already a species present with that name e.g.

There was a discussion about this in a flag a bit ago here but I thought I should repost this in the forum for some potential discussion about disabling EOL imports entirely as suggested in the flag.

I would support this.

This problem still persists. I can see a bunch of them in today’s list.

This is still an issue and I can see a bunch of newly imported ones that need inactivating of swapping on top of the ones I’ve just done.

This is consuming a fair amount of volunteer curation time… @tiwane, do you have an idea of what the timeline might be to fix it? I am concerned that the ungrafted taxa list might spiral out of control once more.

We just released an update that removes EoL as an external name provider - the downside of continuing to use it was outweighing the benefits. I understand it might be a big change for some, but please give it a few days and see how much of a negative impact there is.
