I’ve been seeing a fair number of ungrafted duplicate taxa coming in via the name importer that I suspect are brought in when a synonym is searched for. Here’s a recent one:
I’m guessing someone entered Quercus vallonea and then did search external name provider. Then the importer created a new taxon instead of adding Quercus vallonea to the existing Quercus ithaburensis macrolepis.
I could be wrong about the cause – I haven’t attempted to reproduce. But it’s a somewhat frequent occurrence so it would be nice to fix.
