I went from a vacation in Thasos, Greece and I was wondering… what other natural places can I visit in Greece? What’s your favorite one? What can you see there? I’m curious to hear your thoughts.
I haven’t been since 2008 when I took photos that later became iNat observations. Others surely will have more to offer, but archaeological sites tend to be good for wildlife observations in most countries, especially the quieter sites, but even Delphi had a number of interesting species. Of all the places that we visited, Mistras was the best for that, it’s huge, quiet, and the countryside out there has a lot of insects and birds.
Agree that Mistras was good for naturalizing and also an amazing place. The hills/landscapes along the coast in the Kardamyli area were good as well.
Depends what you’re looking for of course, but if you’re into plants, then Crete could be an interesting choice. Get away from the touristy bits on the coast and get into the hills and mountains and you’ll find lots of endemic species. There are some interesting arthropods too and some very helpful IDers.
