personally i think its cool
post here your opinion of it or if you have one! this is a space to talk about these and other fancy birdfeeders like it.

Hi, I don’t have a smart bird feeder. But I do think it would be very cool to have one. Do you like yours?
I don’t really have a need for bird feeders, because the birds here only care for bird baths. But since most of the bird population here is sun birds (Indian discount hummingbirds) a nectar feeder would be pretty helpful. Plus, having a camera to record it all would be great! If I ever end up with a camera trap or something, I now know what to do with it!
My wife got one as part of a retirement gift, but I haven’t mounted it yet. I need to get to that! It’s made by a company called Onlyfly.
Here are some of my observations from my bird buddy: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?d1=2023-11-30&d2=2023-12-31&taxon_id=3&user_id=tcriley&verifiable=any
It works fairly well, although if you’re going to get one, the battery life is absolutely horrible, and I would suggest buying the solar charger roof as well. The food capacity is also rather small, although that could also be the manic birds in my area.
The basic features (without the paid subscription) are well enough for me - watermarked photos (the watermark is very small), not the best quality but still decently good, and not overly sensitive (Although during peak feeding times I can get bombarded with photos). The premium features mainly just up the sensitivity and quality of the photos.
Overall, if you like seeing bird photos, it’s a great thing to get and lasts a good while (I’ve used mine for two winters now, about to start my third).
Edit: I have to add, the Blue Jays may attack the camera every now and then, mine has been able to withstand it, but a full Blue Jay gang attack may take it out.
i actually dont have one, but they seem like a cool way to observe birds besides traditional bird watching. but man, they are expensive!
I agree they are very expensive.
i think later on when they are older and there are other cooler things and if they become 30-50$ I would get one
your observations are cool, have you named any of them?
i think bird buddy also sells a birdbath with the same kind of camera, and here’s a photo of a hummingbird feeder alongside it:
I definitely can’t afford one because… well, currency conversion.
This is definitely about to be at the top of my wish list for every holiday ever until I get one! I struggle with photographing birds for observation so this seems like such a lifesaver!
