Earlier this week, on Dec. 10, I put up a feeder for sunflower seeds, hoping to attract the winter birds since they had stopped coming to my finch feeder. See story at Squirrels and Birdseed - Nature Talk - iNaturalist Community Forum. I wasn’t sure if they had found it yet.
But my computer is just inside the window so I can see and hear the birds when they come to the feeders. Just now I heard a Black-capped Chickadee so I looked up. No one at the finch feeder…but what’s that? A bird at my sunflower squirrel buster feeder!
It saw me move and flew into the tree. I picked up my camera to get a picture but it flew off. However, I heard it say its name so I know that a chickadee (Black-capped is the only Chickadee in this part of the country) visited my new feeder. I am so excited. Here’s a picture of the feeders. I’m inside the window on the far left.
Those two feeders look really close together from this angle but I measured and they are 18 to 20 inches/45 to 50 cm apart. The yellow one is the finch feeder that I put up in April. The green one is the new feeder. Here it is by itself.
