I can’t believe how much this thread has grown. It is staying alive. Keep up the good work y’all!
We are strong together! We are a bird nerd army!
Lol
Hands down the kinglets, especially the golden-crowned kinglet. I have one single photo observation of one and that was my first time seeing one. Since then I have seen them usually a few times a year but no matter how close they are (the closest was the branch 1.5 meters above my head) I can never get a identifiable photo. I have one in backlog that looks like an obscure gray bird but hopefully it can be IDed. They are just so small and so hyper active. I often resort to audio observations.
Me too!
I have photographed them several times but have never gotten a good clear photo.
I saw a great gray owl for the first time ever today!!

That is awesome!
Really cool! Not a very common owl.
I wanted to thank everyone who voted this past Sunday on the bird of the week. We had 4 more voters than we did the Sunday before last.
Comment below if you have a recommendations on a species you think we should put into a pole this Sunday. I’ll choose two species two put in the pole. I think it would make it even more fun.

I’m hoping to see every species of owl in my state. So far I’ve seen four of the ten species plus a few I saw glimpses of, but never ID’d.
Ooh, I love these kinds of “collect them all” goals. I am currently trying to see all the tanagers in North America, and so far I have seen two. Of course the other two, summer and Western tanagers, are rare where I live.
I’ve only got to see the Scarlet Tanager. Hoping to see the Summer Tanager next summer.
I have also seen four of the 10 species we get in my province. I so far have seen, Northern Saw-whet, Great Horned, Barred, and Eastern Screech. I should be able to get Short-eared and Snowy.
So far I have the Northern Saw-whet Owl, Eastern Screech-Owl, Barred Owl, and the Great Horned Owl.
Nice, same as me!
For the bird of the week, I would go with finches
Good idea thanks!
We are getting our first snow here in West Virginia. Happy birding!
Wow, you’re lucky. Up here in Maine, the “cold North”, climate change has basically extended late fall until the beginning of January.
My four species are great horned owl, northern saw-whet, northern hawk owl, and the great gray owl.
