I think it maybe a good night for owls where I live. I’m really hoping to see one, especially after the success I’ve had the last few weeks.

There’s also an elusive group of brown creepers around.

Both @isopodguy and @oksanaetal. I figured you both were middle aged men. That’s so cool! I think it is cool we have a group of young Birders here.

I like your idea of a pencil and paper. This way you can enjoy the nature without constantly pulling out your phone to add a species. Good note about the ink. I am guessing what you do is start the trip and end it but add the species after? Can you add specific locations for the species to show where on this trip you saw them? I am confused what you mean about heavily trafficked. Do you mean if it is a place with lots of ebirders you do not list every species? I am glad they do not share data as that was my worry about double posting. Finally yes I am US based so it should be the same ebird.

Thank you for such a great response!

Some people just submit incidental checklists when they see cooler birds. Then eBird will still keep track of your life list but you don’t need to keep track of every bird you see on a hike.

I like doing complete lists most of the time because I think it’s neat that I can go back in my eBird records and see a list of nearly every time I’ve seen any particular species. It also keeps hikes more interesting (not that iNatters need that much) and keeps me paying attention to common species that I’d otherwise ignore.

I don’t usually pull out my phone every time I see a bird; I’ll just update my totals every 10 minutes or so. Maybe I added Song Sparrow and American Robin at the beginning of the hike, in the 10 minutes since then I’ve heard 5 more Song Sparrows and seen a Blue Jay and a chickadee so I’ll add those all at once. Then check over at the end to make sure it all makes sense.

Has anyone else got snow today? Comment below .

Here is the snow we got here in West Virginia.
