When will this poll close?
I saw someone posted a Journal post where they were doing a rundown of their year on iNaturalist and I thought my bird information was very interesting. Coming into 2024, I had recorded 375 species of birds on iNaturalist. By December 31st, 2024 I have a new total of 483 species of birds recorded in iNat. Most of the 108 new species were found on my trip to Panama is late March and early April. I observed a total of 237 species for iNat on the year so 45% of my observations were of new species. That just goes to show how many of the 967 observations I had in 2024 were repeats of my common yards birds. 102 were Mourning Dove and 90 were White-crowned Sparrow. I have a goal of seeing 300 species this year in eBird and hopefully I’ll record as many as possible for iNat. I don’t have any big trips planned, so I’m going to have to get around the state a little to make sure I can hit that goal. What are everyone else’s bird related goals for 2025?
I did another CBC today, and had an excellent day. I ended up with 41 species. Here are the day’s results.
For 2025, I would honestly love to just find a Long-eared Owl in my home county. I’ve spent a lot of time looking for them, but to no avail (yet!).
Incidentally, 2 were reported in my home county today (!), but one is on private property and the other is somewhere in a massive pine plantation.
My goal is to get my driver’s license so I can go birding around my state. I’m also really excited for spring migration. So many more great birding experiences to come.
I’m going to DC and Arizona this year, so there are definitely opportunities for new bird species. Besides adding to my MI lifelist, I’m looking forward to seeing new birds in other areas of the country, and I’m especially looking forward to getting a chance to see Gambel’s Quail in AZ.

Yay! The bird of the year is the Owl. Anytime you hear or see an Owl you can share it with us. Hope you all have a blessed 2025. Also for the more international people you all can have the Kingfishers if you want. Happy birding!
Oh, just last night I heard a long eared owl, and my family of little owls are back, I can hear them in the night again! (they’ve been missing for three weeks, because of the fireworks I think) I’m quite unlucky as I can’t photograph them, I don’t have a proper night vision camera or something… Maybe I’ll take pictures at dusk and record them :)
I want to see some of the warblers that migrate through in the spring but do not stick around. I have not seen all of them yet so that would be great. I also hope to explore places I haven’t yet to see if I can find different species. I might keep track of how many bird species I see this year not just new species.
The good thing about entering your bird lists on eBird is that it keeps track of your totals.

I saw some Golden-crowned kinglets today for the first time in a couple of weeks, but I didn’t feel like chasing them around in 19°F temperatures just to get a photo.
