I saw 2 field sparrows on Thursday! I went looking for the painted bunting that everyone keeps seeing at this garden, but only saw sparrows, mockingbirds, and squirrels

I got he bird of the year today! I saw a adult male Snowy Owl in Linwood!
Congratulations! I want a Snowy Owl so bad.

Birding related story: I took a bunch of boxes of books to sell at a used book store and found a signed and dedicated copy of The Birds of North Central Texas by Warren Pulich that was from the library of Greg Lasley. Some iNat old-timers will remember Greg, he was a remarkable person, notable figure in ornithology in Texas who was a general naturalist and contributed a lot to iNat in the early days. A local friend of mine knew Greg pretty well and is a more serious birder then me so I passed it to him, and it turns out he knew Warren Sr. who wrote the book. He passed away years ago, but Warren Jr. lives in Austin, so we met out a park to go birding to hand off the book and I got to give him the book myself, and he appreciated it. The park we mat at is by a bend of the Colorado river with the bluffs overlooking it, there were hundreds of ducks, and a bunch of duck of species. Wayne Jr. has been birding since he was a kid and his dad was an ornithologist, so he was really fun to go birding with. Thereās some western bluebirds that are out there (uncommon in this range), and he led us right to them. (ebird checklist). It was a very gray day with poor light but we saw a fair number of species out there - 48 bird species. I submitted a few iNat observations of plants and ants (found leaf-cutters out there) as well as the birds with photos.

Every year Snowy Owls spend the winter in southern Ontario in large numbers. Right now there is 7 know birds all within an hour from my house!

Wow! I know of at least one here in Maine.
I already got a few species of the birds of the week. I stopped by the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area which is currently loaded with waterfowl including this Eurasian Wigeon.
I also added Northern Pintail to my iNat. I didnāt realize I hadnāt made an observation of it before. There were thousands of pintails around the auto tour loop yesterday.
I had 65 species for the eBird checklist and reached 2200 days for my checklist streak. Yolo Bypass eBird checklist

I actually havenāt even got out for a walk yet this week. Iām planning on going for a 2 hour hike on Thursday, though, at a trail Iāve never been to before. Iām hoping to get something neat!
