Yes they do have a beautiful song. Great photos too!
Thanks, Vermfly⦠in my case a reviewer got rather personal (calling me āfoolishā at one point) even though I accepted and never argued his correction (it was a hawk ID, which I admit Iām not strong on). He contacted me a couple of more times after I removed the sighting to āventā on me. It really upset him, I guess! It certainly soured me to eBird and I havenāt been on since. Birding is a pastime I use to relax and escape the stresses of life⦠if it becomes stressful itself, then whatās the point?
Sorry, now Iām the one thatās venting!!
Come to Maine! Hermit thrushes are common here, and every evening from May to July they sing their hearts out.
Iām happy to be a sounding board for eBird users. It is such a great platform and the data collected is so valuable it really makes me hate hearing about people having bad experiences. I do hope youāll give it another chance and not let one reviewer having a cranky day deter you. If you need any help or have any questions about bird ID feel free to hit me up with questions. You can message me in iNaturalist. Hereās my profile. https://www.inaturalist.org/people/3057
Yes. Iāve heard a few different species near my house. The Eastern Screech-Owl, Barred Owl, and the Great Horned Owl.
So then next thing to do is to find cavities in trees that are west facing. Or go out in the evening on a full moon, so youāll be able to see.
I went on an evening hike with my local conservancy a few weeks ago looking for owls, unfortunately we did not see any.
Ok thanks!
@Vermfly have you seen any Red-breasted Nuthatch arriving in your area for the winter yet?
Any pastime that someone could use to relax and escape the stresses of life, someone else could take so seriously that they inflict stress over it.
Iām noticing one unexpected thing about this thread. Except for my one post about Caribbean birds, the discussion has been entirely North American. That is a departure from the international character of most threads of this length. Surely some of our international iNatters are birders, too.
Do āBirdersā from other regions call āBirdingā something else? I myself have only thought of it as Bird Watchers/Bird Watching, and might not have understood the subject of the thread if I was a non-native speaker of English, or not from N. America.
Across the pond from North Am, theyāre called twitchers.
This would be a good place to list the various terms for birding, birders, actions while birding, etc. in English and other languages.
Do you all like the new title for this forum better?
Maybe a little bit. Also, thank you for starting this thread. I look forward to reading the new posts here every day.
Youāre welcome! I always look forward to reading new posts too.
Is anyone excited to go birding this weekend? Comment below
I went on a short half bird watching, half beach combing expedition today.
I saw these.
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/250066769 not super interesting but the best photos of a crow Iāve ever gotten.

(I by no means consider myself a birdwatcher but I love the opportunity to see and photograph them.)
I think any Bird observation is cool. Thanks for commenting. Also great American Crow photos!
Thanks!
Welcome!
Iām excited to do some birding in my woods this weekend.
