Birding/Birdwatching Discussion Topic

Okee-dokee, so I’m wondering about something. I have a safflower seed feeder, which mostly gets Tufted Titmice and Carolina Chickadees. But there is this Carolina Wren which also comes. Now, wrens do not have seed-adapted bills, although some sources online say that they will sometimes eat seeds such as safflower. But this wren doesn’t look like it is eating the seeds; it appears to be tossing seeds out of the feeder as if looking for something hidden under them. I don’t want all that seed to go to waste; but I also don’t want to be shooing the wren away if it really is eating the seeds. What’s going on here?

Hey, @austin_ajit, have you got a manual and / or quickstart guide for the camera? If not, drop me a message, and I can probably find downloadable versions for you.

Nope, I don’t. The camera is older than me, so I have no manual. If you can find a manual, then thanks a lot!

I saw a Barrow’s Goldeneye yesterday for my bird of the week.

I love these birds. They are one of my favorite diving ducks.

I was walking home last evening and there was a soccer field by the elementary school that I was going through and there were a bunch of night-herons and killdeers just chilling on the grass. I’d never seen anything like that before. I usually see night-herons in trees and killdeers at wetlands. Anyone know what’s going on?

I’ve used pencil and paper for surveys last year and this year I switched to the eBird app and it’s a world of a difference. Pencil and paper is really nice but takes longer and you have to watch out about space when writing comments and making tallies. Though I have nigh run out of battery occasionally so that’s a perk of doing stuff on paper.

Do you think they wanted to play soccer because they’re American and not British? They would want to play football if they were British.

Hawai’i hands down has my favorite birds ('Akohekohe, 'O’o, 'Apapane, I’iwi, Kiwikiu, Kakawahie), but New Zealand is a fairly close second for me, and the Galapagos are pretty interesting too.

I just realized this doesn’t have anything to do with birds. Where can this poll be moved to?

I went for my hike today with a friend. 4.20 km in total. The highlights were 1 SSHA, 3 COHA, 2 BAEA, and 1 PIWO.

Here is the list we made:

I sure hope that not every bird-related thread gets merged into this one. It would get really hard to keep track.

Especially since this one isn’t bird-related!

You should probably just delete it for now.
