Dang, that’s a lot of bird pools
That is actually amazing. I’ve never seen a Merlin, let alone one getting chased by a hummingbird, let alone in a backyard!! So cool
Poll is closed. Try and find birds chasing each other, describe the encounter here. If you have already, look for more! If you have pictures that is great but birds in motion are hard to photograph!
Y’all I’m going to the Solomon Islands in July, aka the part of Earth with the highest avian endemism.
Wow! That is incredibly! Make sure to share pictures and have fun.
Amazing shot!
That is a phenomenal shot!!!
Thank you! :)
Audubon Photography Awards needs this photo.

Thank you :) I do plan on submitting!
WOAH!
That’s the BEST PICTURE I’ve ever seen!
Thank you!
A little backstory: Every week through my city’s nature club (Waterloo Region Nature) we go to this private farm to do nest box monitoring on Tree Swallows. Two weeks ago, I noticed that when we were working on a certain nest box, the male would perch on this rusted metal bar. I was hoping to get a takeoff shot, but out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the female swooping in. The male started “screaming” at her and I clicked away (HERE you can see the interactions from both weeks. I hope eBird links are allowed in this forum ) The second week, I noticed he perched there again, and so I decided to camp out until it happened again! Sure enough, the female swooped in, and this time, I captured the female as well!
** Edit ** They are both males
Cornell Lab MUST take this as a species profile picture! It’s LEGENDARY!
A question to ya’ll : Do you have a ‘spark’ bird? If so, how did you find it? I (unfortunately) haven’t found mine yet. Hopefully I’ll find one soon .
Peregrine Falcon, although a fictional one.
I actually have a lot of spark birds. All of them are endemic to Hawai’i and learning about how they’re declining and how many species are already extinct was what first made me passionate about birding.
My beloved Northern Bobwhite, of course! I learned of quail when I was 11, and got my first quail soon after that. I then realized how much I love them, and have since then done all I can to learn more about them! NOBOs are definetely my favorite though. Blue Jays also got me into birding.
I’m sure you will! India has so many cool birds! One of my favorites is the Rain Quail. The Himalayan Monal is another cool one.
My spark bird was the Cedar Waxwing. After my first couple birding walks I found my first flock of Cedar Waxwings, they are super cool birds. They are definitely the ones that got me fired up in the birding world.
