It sounds like I’d need to do this each time I turn the camera on, even after it puts itself to sleep. Do I have that right? This is a pretty easy workaround to avoid the battery drain caused by permanent logging.
This is a big deal, and something I’ll be happy to put behind me.
Thanks. Maybe a separate camera for birds/distance is in my future, but it’s not in the budget right now. I just ordered a TG-7, along with a light ring and diffuser. I’m going to play around a bit and learn how to use it. I’m 100% certain macro shots will be significantly improved. My hope is that the distance pics will be at least as good as what I get from my silly phone+monocular rig. I’ll see how things look without the telephoto extension, and likely buy the extension later. I haven’t seen a lot of write-ups on results with the telephoto lens, it seems that most people opt for a separate camera, as you have.
I’ve gotta say, even without stacking that ant pic looks pretty damn good. I’m excited to start taking pictures. Thanks for your input!
I use a TG-6 for most of my observations, and my workflow is to transfer all pictures to my (Android) phone, on the TG-6 with its somewhat strange wifi mode, but TG-7 I suppose might have Bluetooth. Once transferred, all pictures are in the Photos app (alongside the pictures I take with the phone) so deleting bad ones and matching phone/camera ones is not an issue, and if I leave gps off on the camera inat will take it from phone pictures I include instead.
