Bye Winter! What are your favorite winter-themed observations this year?

Hi guys!

Winter is almost over! Which means one thing: SPRING is (finally) coming, with all of the cool flowers and bugs!

Winter must not be underestimated, though. What are your favorite observations this winter?

I made myself a top 5 favorites, with one of them being a lifer!

  1. A Long-Tailed Tit, both a lifer and a lovely little bird to find, all fluffy, cute, fast and curious critter; at some point it came up so close to my lens I couldn’t even get a photo of it!
    2. A Blue Tit, a 90%-luck-10%-speed photo I absolutely LOVE. (no matter how hard I tried, I never managed to get a better photo)
    3. An Eurasian Tree Sparrow, curious about that weird creature with a big black thing pointing at him (me and my camera )
    4. A Great Tit, so cute and all fluffed-up for the cold to come.
    5. A Hooded Crow, I like the composition most and it has a pretty funny story behind.

Still not sure about the 1st and 2nd places… please help, I love both photos! Which one do you like most? (as a bonus question LOL :upside_down_face:)

What are your favorite winter photos, that warm you up every time you see ‘em?
Looking forward to seeing your amazing shots!

Taken December 2025 in Northeast Florida, USA This was the 2nd one I saw in December 2025. It has been a chilly winter this year too. Even getting down into the 20s.

My first encounter with the epiphyte Loranthus europaeus:

The mountain location I decided to visit that day had a lot less nature and more chestnut monoculture than expected, but the sight of these bright yellow fruits made the hike more pleasant.

As a Texan, I almost prefer winter because it brings all the migratory birds, I’m definitely going to miss ospreys and northern pintails the most.
