Something ive noticed with wild birds is that if they notice me even 100 meters away walking towards them they immediately move somewhere else but if i pull up right next to them in my car they dont seem to care.
The only time i managed to get a good buzzard photo was completely randomly on a car trip with my friends blasting music and we parked literally under his tree and he didnt care at all, meanwhile regularly buzzards will leave the area immediately if they spot me even trying to sneak up on them from far away behind a bush.
Have they just collectively associated cars with non-danger?

There are plenty of bird refuges where you need to stay in your car so as to not scare the birds, eg Sacramento NWR.
By using your vehicle as a viewing blind, the wildlife will remain calm and provide excellent viewing opportunities for everyone throughout the day!

This is one of the reasons I love birding from my recumbent trike. If I walk up to birds, they fly, but if I bike (trike?) up to them and snap photos while reclined, they stay put. The moment I talk, stand up, or otherwise alert them to my primate nature, they are gone, but if I don’t I can observe them closely for minutes at a time.
