I would guess at it not being a valid taxon. Names in that form are typically ones used by scientists working on or prior to a revision, and so they are provisional names. Once a paper is published they are normally replaced with a formal and valid name.
Yeah I’m not 100% sure re:ID.
Wish there more Collembola pros on iNaturalist to agree / disagree :)
Either way, would be nice if there was an existing genus or species to aim to assign it to even if I´ve failed to reach it this time around.
The striped back is visible on the latter half of the photos.
I’m assuming its the same specimen, but maybe I’m wrong.
If two separate specimens, I think
Second half of photos = Nov.1 Sp.1
First half = Nov.1 Sp.2 forma juvenile2 perhaps https://www.collembola.org/taxa/katiidae.htm
(some mottled patterns seem similar in Allacma fusca but body shape very different)
Overall, I reckon it/both are genus Nov.1 at least.
Do you know anything about the naming system for these @alexis_orion?
Looks as if a bunch of species were reclassified… wondering if I should be tagging them using the names like Polykatianna or just leaving at family.
