I made a github issue: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/4296. Note that Australia is not a continent-level place on iNat, it’s under the “continent” of Oceania.

Workarounds:

  • use the header search to search for a continent.
  • edit the search URL and add place= and the continent place number.

Continent-level place ID numbers:

oceania: 97393
south america: 97389
africa: 97392
asia: 97395
europe:97391
north america: 97394

Thanks, the place ID numbers will work for now.

Just a heads-up, we don’t mark a bug as “solved” until the underlying issue has been fixed and the fix has been released, so I removed the “solved” designation for now.

Hi, I’d also like to add that this happens not just with continents, but also islands such as Java, Sulawesi, Sumatra, etc. Not sure what other locations this happens with.

Weirdly all the missing locations are available on “Identify”. I haven’t found any that are available on “Explore” but not “Identify”

I have not been able to filter for Africa in the explore location for at least a year. I use Chrome and desktop.

I use iNat places to filter for Africa, not Google places.
