I’ve noticed that the individual pages for certain images on iNat seem to have a different license then the observation as a whole. For example, this observation is listed as CC0/Public domain, but this photo is listed on its own page as being CC BY-NC. Could someone clarify why that is?
each observation and media asset (photo / sound) is copyrighted and licensed independently. if you want to use the photo in Wikiworld, you need to ask the observer to license the photo using a license that Wikifolks will accept.

Just to add in relation to this case, you don’t need to ask for CC0 to use the photo on Wikipedia. CC-BY is also fine for use on Wikipedia, and would be more consistent with the wish of the observer to have their name credited.
