On the other hand, I believe that those chronotypes have been made more diverse by artificial lighting. How many self-identified ānight peopleā would be so if their immediate surroundings were dark whenever the sun went down?
I have no doubt, given how many other animals have had their habits change. In Costa Rica, I saw lots of diurnal house geckoes and nocturnal grackles in areas with heavy artificial lighting.
