Deep Learning Classification Toolkit

Hi folks

I have written and python / jupyter notebook that takes research grade images (Caddis is the current Taxa) using some ML, using the research grade images only, to help identify the trinomial (where possible).

We have a community project newly formed here in Loch Rannoch, Scotland, looking at freshwater monitoring of one of the most important watercourses in all of Scotland. The hydro scheme takes significant volumes from the loch and we wish to chart the impacts using sensors, eDNA and my ML tool.

I was wondering if iNaturalist would be interested in being involved as I have used the images curated by the community and validators as the validation and training sets.

It is my intention to release the code on GitHub and Hugging Face but wanted to check in with the iNaturalist team and the community prior to doing so.

Big fan of the work and the ethics behind your work.

Please reach out if of interest. Some early test images below.

Warmest regards

John

What is the difference between your solution and iNaturalists own machine vision identifications?

I have not assessed them. Ours is a localised community project.
