Does anyone know this mushroom that has popped up in my backyard in Auckland, New Zealand. I have a dog and a baby and want to know if it is toxic. Thanks

I would like to share some instruction that I received about how to use the iNat Forum. I’m sharing it not just for you, but also as a reminder to myself!

"The iNaturalist Forum is separate from the iNaturalist platform itself, and has somewhat different goals and its own set of Guidelines for use.

The key phrase in the first paragraph of those guidelines is constructive discussions. If your post had used the observation as an example to start a discussion, ask a question, or otherwise request feedback on a relevant topic, then it would have been fine.

But simply posting an observation, is more what the iNaturalist platform itself is for, and you can tag interested people there to bring things to their attention.

iNaturalist pays for the Discourse platform used by the Forum based on the number of monthly page hits, so the reality is that they have to maintain some boundaries and focus for the content here."

Hi @hannahcccc , welcome to iNaturalist. :)

My very first Observation was a plant about which I was concerned that ended up being nothing nefarious, and I will hope this is equally benign.

I think someone (@lothlin?) once mentioned here that it is good to note if there was a nearby tree or remnants of a tree/plant nearby on which fungi might be growing, that this was helpful. It looks like in your photos there might be, so you might want to put that in your Observation in the notes section.

PD: I have zero experience with your part of the world or very much with fungi, but will hope @dlevitis is right about his pal Gertrude.
