Hello!
I can’t understand to what genus it is correct to refer the butterfly, which is listed on this forum as Favonius quercus (Linnaeus, 1758) Blauer Eichen-Zipfelfalter.
Three names are used in different sources:
- Favonius quercus (Linnaeus, 1758)
- Quercusia quercus (Linnaeus, 1758)
- Neozephyrus quercus (Linnaeus, 1758).
As far as I understand, these names are synonyms (were relevant at some point in time), but which one is relevant now? From the literature I was able to understand that the species used to belong to the genus Quercusia (Settele et al., 2008, page 29), but this genus is now included in the genus Favonius. However, the position of the genus Neozephyrus is not clear to me. I am confused by this term from wikipedia

I understand that wikipedia is not a reliable source of information (moreover, articles about butterflies lack references to literature), but from my experience with butterfly taxonomy, everything that was written in wikipedia was eventually confirmed by other academic literature, but in Neozephyrus quercus case I did not find any information.
Could you please explain to me the status of Neozephyrus quercus and suggest a reliable source of information on this topic. Thank you.
