I like all odonates. But some favourites are listed below.
Myristica Sapphire - I would like to see this rare endemic.
For the favourite ones I’ve seen:
Russet Percher and Asiatic Blood Tail.
Trithemis is pretty amazing. Our New World species of Orthemis are also similarly striking. A Roseate Skimmer always looks to me like a flying stick of pink bubblegum.
Another Greg Lasley story is always welcome.
Although some of them stretch the definition of aquatic. The Northwestern Grayback has larvae that inhabit wet moss.
My favorite is a California endemic, the lone species in it’s genus, Zoniagrion exclamationes. It has 2 blue !! marks atop it’s thorax and I’ve always used two, and blue is my favorite color. Plus, it’s common name, the Exclamation Damsel, is one I suggested, and it is the very first Ode I ever identified on my own!
I miss him almost every day!
