Feather Identification

I found this feather in the grasslands of British Columbia. I am trying to identify what species it is from, i’ve spent some time looking through photos online and can’t find a match.

I think its either from an owl, hawk or harrier. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is your best bet.

Do you know what’s specifically, commonly sighted in that grassland, for example a short eared owl? It might help narrow it down a little bit further.

I think it’s an owl feather, potentially a body or alula feather from a juvenile, as they’re usually more wildly variable than adult plumage. I don’t think it’s a hawk feather, they tend to be more structured and patterns are more barred or streaked.

I’m not getting any exact matches either from all the owls, hawks and harrier feathers I’ve looked at. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Welcome to the iNaturalist Forum! Cool feather, but this forum is not a place to ask for help with identification - that’s what iNaturalist.org is for. So I’ve unlisted this topic. Please post the photo as an observation to iNaturalist and someone will be able to help you out with an ID. See these Getting Started pages.
