Find what plants a botanist described

Is there a site where I can access a list of plants first described (or later reclassified) by a particular botanist? In the first instance, I’m interested in the Dutch botanist Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel (Miq.; 1811-1871).

To keep my word use stats on target for 2026, I’ll mention that he described a lot of mistletoes :face_with_tongue:.

The main site with that info is IPNI (International Plant Name Index) I think it’s ipni.org

I don’t know if you can search by authority, but I think you can. It may not be 100% complete, but it’s the best I can think of.

That seems to be the solution: https://ipni.org/a/6509-1 lists 6960 names published by Miq.

Missouri Botanical Garden’s Tropicos also often has good info on authors and references, for example: https://tropicos.org/person/146

Thank you!

POWO is more exhaustive it seems - https://powo.science.kew.org/results?f=species_f&q=Author%3AMiq

hmm maybe its listing somethings multiple times in search list for things like older name by Miq and newer name after transfers by another author of same thing as separate while IPNI displays only once for both of those.

it is not apparent but searching Author:authorname on POWO works exactly for author search.

Wikispecies is also a good resource https://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Augustus_Fendler
