For those of you who are visual artists, do you like to draw/paint anything from nature?

A sketch of the BRDL for today. Trying to keep my grief pushed aside by drawing silly birds.

There’s some good artwork here!

These are two of my attempts. Many more have ended up in the bin.

Someone asked me to paint this because it’s part of the area they grew up in. It turned out a bit on the bright side, but hey, it’s art, I can get away with it. I experimented with some Bob Ross techniques on this one.

This is what it’s supposed to look like minus the false sky.

This was my attempt at capturing a classic Australian landscape, with blue mountains in the background. I painted it in the style of Len Hend, who you can find on YouTube if you’re interested. He calls his approach ‘bush art’ or ‘loose painting’—watching a few of his videos will give you a good idea of his technique. A good example of his technique can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGTft8LsvXI

i loved being able to scroll through here and see all the the creative forms of appreciation people have for nature! personally i like doing little doodles of animals most of the time:

but i also really like drawing animals that i id on here, like hawks and falcons

for a school project i did make a watercolor “field guide” of local hawk species, which i thought was pretty cool too.

i’m trying my best to work on my field sketches so i can combo my love of observing nature and art, but my experience is definitely limited. im hoping i get better!

once again amazing job to everyone on this thread, your art is so beautiful! <3

A drawing I made today. It was very fun to do, and kind of challenging.

just did this one of some bees on a rotting apple from this observation

phone died so i ended up winging it after a while of using the photo as reference, so the bees are too bright

They don’t look too bright to me. I haven’t looked at the observation, so I don’t have the comparison.

in the photo they are a darker orange colour, not quite so yellow

Not my best work, but just a little doodle of a scops owl I saw a few weeks back.

I haven’t seen any recent art-related threads here, so I decided to make one. My partner showed me iNaturalist and it has been a lot of fun to explore for inspiration and references. I usually paint dogs, with the goal of many of my pieces to serve as scientific illustrations of the anatomy and correct conformation of well-bred purebred dogs, ideally with form following function.

I recently painted a spread of Rosy Maple Moths, and am currently working on a Pink Snout moth illustration. I shared the completed piece on Reddit and my other social media and was shocked when another user reached out and informed me that they haven’t been able to find any scientific illustrations of the rosy maples. I wonder how many other species are going underrepresented, or the artists just aren’t getting much reach on their posts/products if they do. (Social Media algorithms suck but marketing, networking, and making art are very different skill sets)

I am painting/drawing as many species as I can to celebrate their beauty and preserve their images.

I created this mixed media piece using sepia Copic multiliners, watercolor (Holbein & Daniel Smith are my go-tos!), and Prismacolor watercolor pencils.

This pink snout moth is just colored pencil on smooth Bristol paper.
