Grouping observations to share with non-users

Hi there!
This is my first post so apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place.

I recently went on a road trip, and would like to share the observations made with the other people that were with me. However, they do not use iNat, and a majority are rather technologically challenged.

Is there a way, aside from a project (as I don’t think that’s the correct use for that feature - correct me if I’m wrong) to group these observations into something accessible through a single URL?

If I understand what you are after, you can just send them a URL for the web explore page filtered to just those observations. Step-by-step:

  1. on the iNaturalist web site, click “Explore”
  2. click on “Filter”,then on “More Filters”
  3. under “Person” put in your user name
  4. under “Date Observed” put a range covering your trip
  5. (0ptional) at the top of the map, click on “Grid” so they see pictures to start with (I think that’s the easiest interface for non-users)
  6. Once you are satisfied that the right set of observations is displayed, copy the URL from the address bar at the top of the page, and send that out.

Because iNaturalist data is visible to anyone (not just those with accounts), they should be able to see everyting and click on the grid pictures to see details and more photos.

I would also add that I don’t see any issue with using a project to collect your observations from a specific trip for display. You could use the filters from @twainwright above to make a collection project if you like the project display and think it would be good for your target audience.

One way I’ve done this is by adding a unique tag to all the observations I wanted to share. This also allows you to combine multiple dates or just select observations rather than everything from a date range. You can filter for your user name and unique tag in explore (if you’re the only one using that tag, you could just filter for that) and share the resulting URL. (Example: This is a set with a tag I used for a walk with my niece, who was too young to have her own account at that time but had a lot of fun finding stuff for me to take pictures of and post on iNat for her.)
