I just identified this observation and then noticed the number in the link. I am not quite familiar with how it works, but has iNat reached 250000000 observations?

Technically, yes, but you’ll see about 30k fewer obs in the Explore tab because the URL # includes all deleted observations.

No, there are currently only 240m total observations. Uncheck “Verifiable” on the Explore page to see the total number of observations in the database.
The observation number for new observations doesn’t change if older observations have been deleted. For example, I make a good number of test observations when testing out our apps, and then delete those. So the observation number just tells you how many observations have been ever created, not how many are actually in the database.
