Heat map not longer working

Hi The observations heat map: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/map#3/-2.22/25.265 is just an orange blur. Can this be returned to how it was?

I think that’s by design. What’s wrong about it? It’s not just an orange blur - if you zoom, you can see not all areas are orange and the intensity of the orange corresponds to the density of observations. And if you zoom still more - you will see the individual pins.

Oh, didn’t know about that. So it’s not working as before indeed. Sorry about my not very helpful input…

This is due to the new map tiles. We didn’t prioritize this map becuase it’s not really linked to. We can improve on it, but probably can’t bring it back to its former state.

i don’t think this is accurate. the color gradient heatmap still works (and is improved since the new map tiles). the problem on the page noted in the original post is that it asks the map tiles to be generated in a single specific color, thereby losing the color gradient.

just a heads up. it looks like code has been checked in that should solve this problem: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/commit/ec9f0dfeb7ea9b751a34050b32a6e2687eada724. it doesn’t look the change has actually been deployed to the masses yet, but maybe if you take a look in a week or so (?), the orange blur problem will be resolved…

The heatmap should be working again in production. Apologies for the mixup - some other recent changes to map styles affected this map. We should now be back to where we were a few weeks ago with the heatmap working with the newish styles (released with the grids change) https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/map#2/0/0
