Help with adding new places and existing observations

After adding a new place existing observations in the area do not show up in the created space.

I looked into some other posts referencing issues with bounding boxes and the level of accuracy of specific observations, but a difference space that my new space fully envelops has those observations that mine does not.

Is it also possible that the database needs to catch up? I created space and gave it about an hour to do its thing. Will keep updated if anything changes.

It can take a few hours. As the new place page says:

New places are one of the biggest sources of slowdowns on iNat

So new places are basically put into a queue and processed one at a time or so.

Hello. I just started a project to document all native plants in my city. However, when creating it I realized my city does not show as a recognized place on iNat… so I went ahead, drew a map through google maps, and uploaded a new place (Pleasanton, California).
When I searched up Pleasanton, California, it showed up as a new place but said there are 0 observations there… will it take some time to load in? or do all previous observations within the area not show up because it wasn’t a mapped place until today?

Moved your post to this topic that was created today that brought up the same question. See my answer above.

I made a github issue to add more helpful text when a new place is created: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/4632
