HNP Place Integration?

Has any thought ever been given to integration between the Homegrown National Parks map and iNat Places? It seems like it would be fairly easy to do…

Either have HNP use the place endpoint to get the centerlat and centerlng after the HNP user certifies it’s their place. Potentially asking HNP to show a widget of recent observations at that pin using the observation endpoint when the pin is clicked in the Tallamy map. -or- ask the place creator on iNat if they’d like a pin put on the HNP map as they’re creating their place.

Maybe it’s a really bad idea. But just wondered if anyone had thought about it. I don’t like parallel Systems developing that have similar functionality and split networks. They both care about people and plants, so why not integrate. To me, iNat would have slightly more to benefit in the sense that as users become more engaged… they might migrate here. HNP benefits from a truer portrayal of the holistic map (deeply engaged, and less engaged).

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by integrate. You want iNat observations to show up on their map?

I have never heard of HNP before, but it does not look super similar to iNat’s functionality in my opinion.

no that would be taking it too far. just a hint at what iNat is about if the iNat user is willing to share their place location with HNP. -or- if done from the HNP side… a green (inat pin) in HNP’s map signifying that the HNP user referred to a place that they created in iNat.

HNP (in my view) is wayyyyy more simplistic. so there isn’t a lot of crossover between users. They are just trying to have a holistic view of people who have asserted that they’re caring for their place… with plants and animals in mind. The thing is… some of the people on HNPs map, might be just starting to become interested. I could see some of them migrating here more than some here migrating there. At the same time… HNP might enjoy the more holistic map with more pins (some of which are iNat pins)… that have additional significance.
