Hornbill individual count

In particular to Wrinkled Hornbill where individual in general can be identified by its casque, bill crack/teeth.

I’m wondering is there existing such features to allow me to identify or count how many unique individuals from my observation list? If not, could such feature be considered to be implemented in near future?

If just few numbers, counting won’t be much issue by manually but when the numbers growth, it will become extremely challenging. My case are in particular of continuous sightings in one area where individuals come and go making their stopover. Such unique individual numbers can be in great use for any future reporting and researches.

if i’m understanding you correctly, i don’t think what you’re asking for is functionality that should be added to iNaturalist. if you want to do it as your own project, you can certainly get and run your data from iNaturalist through some other thing that would identify individuals, and then you could come back into iNaturalist and use, say, observation fields to label particular individuals.

Thanks for the suggestion. Wasn’t aware there are such platform already. Will look into it.

The other option you could use would be to use observation fields, and then for you to make your own coding system (Possibly based on a mix of whatever characteristics you’re using. To make a new observation field, scroll to the bottom of this here page: https://www.inaturalist.org/observation_fields

I recommend using a Text field, and then making the code something like:

Individual-34-Cask-TypeA-Bill-TypeC

You can of course change it to suite your needs, but just an idea.
