The little that I’ve read, the challenges facing the coquí include a lot of habitat level destruction from the hurricanes. I’m sure that’s not the only issue, but I remember seeing that.
Ironically, the coquí is an invasive species in Hawai’i.
This isn’t the coquí, which I’ve heard in San Juan and which belongs to the genus Eleutherodactylus. This is Peltophryne lemur, and none of the sightings on iNat are in San Juan. They’re mostly in the southwest, with some on the north coast west of San Juan.
